1. Where each part stands
| Part | Status |
|---|---|
| Ordering from the chart | Working in eClinicalWorks' sandbox (2026-09-29). The app was launched for a sandbox provider and patient, and the order screen showed 13.1 seconds after launch (including the first-time clinician choice), with the patient's demographics filled in. A test order was placed. It uses eClinicalWorks' certified read APIs, which need no contract. |
| Results into the eClinicalWorks chart | Not available yet. |
| Results meanwhile | QDX sends every result the ways your practice chooses in QDX: the QDX portal, fax, email, a phone call, HL7 to an interface engine, FHIR, a webhook, or PDF. |
2. The ordering app
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| App | QDX Lab Ordering, an EMR Launch app registered on eClinicalWorks' developer portal (public client with PKCE, OpenID) |
| Launch and redirect URL | https://qdx.systems/app/launch.html |
| What it reads | user/Patient.read user/Practitioner.read user/Encounter.read user/Condition.read. It writes nothing. |
How QDX knows it is your practice: eClinicalWorks opens QDX with your practice's own FHIR address, which ends in your practice code (https://fhir4.eclinicalworks.com/fhir/r4/<practice code>). QDX matches that address to your QDX organization, but only after QDX has confirmed with you that the practice code is yours. So no other QDX customer can receive your clinicians' launches.
What the clinician sees:
- The patient's demographics from the chart. The clinician fills in only what the chart lacks.
- The chart's diagnoses as ICD-10 codes, where the chart has them. The sandbox patient QDX was tested with had none, so the diagnosis was added by searching.
- The estimated total before ordering; the requisition and the patient's hold letter.
- The first time each eClinicalWorks user opens QDX, they choose which of your verified clinicians they are. QDX remembers the choice.
3. What your practice does
| Step | Who and where |
|---|---|
| Activate QDX Lab Ordering for your practice | Your eClinicalWorks administrator, once the app is available to eClinicalWorks customers. QDX will tell you when it is. |
| Connect it in QDX | Your QDX administrator adds the connection under Settings > EMR connections: eClinicalWorks, your practice's FHIR address, the client ID QDX gives you, and test or live mode |
| Confirm the practice code | QDX writes to your administrator to confirm it before any launch connects |
| Choose where results go | In QDX, Settings > Results delivery |
4. Results by fax, for any practice
Until results are filed into your chart (or alongside it), QDX can fax each result report to your EMR's fax inbox. See Results into any EMR by fax.
